A new beginning

Well. Here we go. A new start.

I’ve been making art for about five years now, and it’s been a real journey: from online tutorials, to in-person classes, and lots of experimentation. I’ve made huge, six-foot abstracts, pencil sketches, tiny watercolor illustrations, geli prints, screen prints, street art, and zines. The result is a focus that’s both narrowed and broadened.

Watercolor came first, and then experimentation with acrylics. I know this is silly, but I felt like I was cheating on watercolors by making abstract acrylics. The same happened when I’d try printmaking, collage, or zines. I could hear this annoying voice in my head, “Find one thing to focus on! That’s what you should be working on.”

Fortunately, my artist friend Lunare recently told me how very wrong that is:

“Art is the very last place where we should have to choose, in my opinion. I think we should resist making such a choice assiduously, consciously, conscientiously.”

Well, heck yes.

So here’s to making what we feel. Thanks for coming along.
